Subject: Draft Interim Water Quality Report

Synopsis:  Seeking comments, Montana DEQ issued a draft interim report on the status of water quality protection efforts across the state, including the Kootenai and Clark Fork drainages, both of which flow into the Idaho Panhandle. PCTU comments focused on water quality protection as those efforts affect Idaho reaches of those watersheds, with emphasis on minimizing selenium pollution in the Kootenai River resulting from upriver coal mining activities, including railways in the assessment of transportation corridors and their impacts on water quality (both rivers have high use rail lines in their corridors), and continued water quality improvements in the Clark Fork River.
