Subject: HR 2073 Defending Our Dams Act
Synopsis: Representative Newhouse of Washington State proposed HR 2073
“Defending Our Dams Act” which, if passed, would legislatively take removal of the four lower Snake River Dams completely off the table as means for recovering Snake River salmon and steelhead populations. Numerous rigorous scientific assessments of salmon and steelhead declines clearly demonstrate the lower four Snake River dams are the primary cause of the decline, and the primary reason for the lack of progress in recovering these fish and the fisheries they historically supported. In keeping with National TU position, PCTU requested the Idaho congressional delegation reject this legislation in the absence of mitigation efforts that demonstrate recovery.
